“The Access Orthopaedics clinic has significantly changed the way that I provide shoulder care to Albertans. Before this central-access approach, patients would routinely wait for over a year to find out from me if they needed physiotherapy, more tests or if they needed surgery for their shoulder problem. If a patient came to me and then needed advanced diagnostic tests, they would wait many months again. It was challenging to provide timely surgery.
Now, when I see a new patient, they’ve usually had non-surgical treatment and have the appropriate advanced diagnostic testing. In essence, they come with everything I need to explain options and treatment at the time of initial consultation. I feel that patients are waiting less overall, and the ones who will most benefit from surgery are getting to me more efficiently.”
